The Mobilfunk-Messwoche is a joint initiative set up by the German federal, state and local governments. Everyone in Germany is invited to monitor their mobile network. The aim is to visualise mobile network coverage in Germany from a consumer perspective.
The aim of the Mobilfunk-Messwoche is to gain a better understanding of the actual user experience from the consumers’ point of view with the active participation of as many people as possible.
For many years now, the German Federal Network Agency has already been collecting availability data with its broadband measurement app. This data is recorded in the dead zone map (”Funklochkarte”) of the Gigabitgrundbuchs. The German Federal Network Agency also regularly collects data about mobile network coverage as part of their mobile network monitoring. However, this merely consists of data submitted by mobile network providers, and does not always accurately reflect the day-to-day experiences of the actual network users.
The additional data collected during the Mobilfunk-Messwoche aims to supplement existing data and reveal positive developments and potential for actions.
